eHealth 2018: Collaborating with other health innovators and a nod to our roots
The annual e-Health conference took place this year in Vancouver over May 27th – 30th and brought together Canadian digital health leaders and innovators who share the common goal of improving patient outcomes and transforming our health system. Our Reliq Health team attended to represent iUGO Care and collaborate with other trailblazers in the industry who also have an interest in actively engaging patients with chronic disease.

The conference had a range of events fostering innovation and offering networking opportunities. Hacking Health partnered once again with e-Health and led another successful Hackathon. The Hackathon design challenge, in particular, is close to our hearts, as iUGO Care’s roots started in 2015 at the Toronto eHealth conference. Co-founders Leo Godreault and Reliq Health’s Chief Visionary Officer Giancarlo De Leo’s Hackathon team developed CareKit (since renamed iUGO Care), a care coordination platform connected to wearables and sensors. For those unfamiliar with opens in a new windowHacking Health, they are an international non-profit organization bringing together a community of progressive healthcare professionals, patients, developers and other technical stakeholders, designers, entrepreneurs, and industry collaborators to find solutions to current challenges within the healthcare system. As technology is rapidly developing there is an urgent need to ensure that front-line healthcare professionals and organizations keep pace.
The eHealth Hackathon is a three-day event that pairs teams consisting of physicians, healthcare professionals, and technology experts with leaders, entrepreneurs, buyers and decision makers to work collaboratively to build solutions and prototypes that tackle problems in healthcare. Teams iterate rapidly from concept to prototype over the course of the event, and on the last day of the Hackathon, leaders of the teams presented their projects and winners were selected. A special focus this year was placed on patients and connected care and tackling the issue of chronic disease management.

The Hacking Health judging panel included Dr. Chris Hobson (Orion Health), Shiran Isaacksz (Digital Health Canada Board President), Herbet Brasileiro (CIHI), Sue Sepa (Infoway), and e-Health patient representatives Kerri Mackay and Francine Buchanan.
